Integrated Research Training Group

Clinic I for Internal Medicine, Centre for Molecular Medicine Cologne (ZMMK), University of Cologne

The Integrated Research Training Group aims to optimize the current training of PhD students and post-docs working on projects within the CRC 670. It was funded by the DFG in 2007/2 and organized – actively supported by our young scientists - since then retreats, a symposium and workshops. While the progress in project work was presented and critically discussed on the retreats, gaining knowledge in practical and theoretical skills was the focus of the further activities.

This concept will be continued. Briefly, the progress of the PhD projects will be critically evaluated at the retreats and in thesis committees. The function of the latter is to reshape the project if necessary, to define milestones and to decide on the further training program.

The training program of the PhD students and post-docs in immunology and related areas is the responsibility of the IRTG, while training in further areas of biology and molecular medicine will be done in the form of lectures by Graduate School of Biological Sciences (GSfBS) itself and by further specific programs within the GSfBS, namely the Interdisciplinary Program Molecular Medicine (IPMM) and the International Max-Planck Research School (IMPRS).

These scientifically orientated trainings are complemented by soft skill courses. This structured training program will ensure the quality of the PhD projects and should provide the best possible environment for the development of our young scientists.
